Human rights in the Republic of Malawi are addressed in the constitution. The 2009 Human Rights Report by the United States Department of State noted that the government generally respected the rights of citizens, however there were issues regarding the police force as well as other concerns.[1]

Amnesty International report noted concerns over the arrest of journalists who published critical reports of the current government.[2] The journalists were later released on bail.
